PLAYWORK
We take play seriously and create pop-up play spaces for children and their families to play freely.
Rooted in loose parts play, we create spaces that allow for a range of play - physical, imaginative, creative, exploratory, dramatic - players might build structures, create characters, make stories, design sculptures, invent sports, solve problems or just explore the properties of different objects.
We have experience creating early years focused spaces and spaces for 0-11 year olds and their families, for festivals, schools and arts organisations.

PLAY INSTALLATION AT SOUTHBANK CENTRE
Enter an endless world of play in this brand new interactive experience. Part installation, part adventure playground, Replay is a space built entirely out of waste materials repurposed for fun.
With a design that reignites imaginations, a score composed from recycled sounds and a unique crowdsourced play generator, Replay is a 60 minute uninterrupted celebration of free play.
PLAY AT ENDIKE PRIMARY SCHOOL
We’ve been researching play alongside the children at Endike Primary School in Hull, aged 2 - 11 years.
We now run termly family play sessions for their Foundation children and families.
We've danced, rolled, built, shaped, stuck, carried, tested, thrown, styled and explored together. Some of the children's explorations are shared in this video.
POP-UP PLAY AT CAMBRIDGE FESTIVAL
We’ve made an Early Years Play Space for
Cambridge Festival at the University of Cambridge in 2023 and 2024
This drop-in installation is open throughout the day for families to come and go, supported by The Herd's facilitators alongside sessions from Academics at the University.
