ONE DAY PLAY
ONE DAY PLAY is a unique experience for primary schools in Hull and East Yorkshire. A chance for children to experience the professional theatre making process, in just one day.
ONE DAY PLAY platforms children's imaginations, builds confidence, develops literacy skills, and raises career aspirations through opening up the theatre making process at a formative age.

Offering the chance to work in a professional theatre space with professional theatre makers, this project will contribute to a schools Artsmark Award.
Delivered in partnership with Hull and East Yorkshire’s Children’s Univeristy’s experiences programme.

Suitable for KS2

WHAT TO EXPECT
Workshop 1 We will practically explore the different roles in the theatre - the Actor, Director, Designer, and Stage Manager through drama exercises.
Workshop 2 Working as a group, the children will write a script to make their own play.
Workshop 3 The children will split into ‘Cast’ or ‘Crew’. They will get to make design choices for their play, and stage the scenes. All children will have a go at designing and performing in the day.
Workshop 4 We put all the elements together and practise with a dress rehearsal. The children will get hands on experience of sound, lights, props set and costume.
Show A 10 minute performance in which all the children perform, to an invited audience of parents, carers and staff.
ACCESSIBILITY
We would like the day to be as accessible as possible to every child. Here’s the ways we have tried to remove barriers for children with an SEND need and for those who may have English as an Additional language. If there is any other requirements a child/children in your class may have, do let us know and we will accommodate as best we can.
-
A time table of the day printed and visible in the room at all times.
-
Icons are used alongside printed text to aid reading and comprehension.
-
Black and white contrast colours used for visual impairments.
-
We’ll be using some sound and light elements in the day, and the levels will be appropriate.
-
Working on a flat stage for any wheelchair users, no levels or stairs to engage with.

PRE-VISIT CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES
We've made a presentation to introduce the One Day Play programme to the children, and share key terms of the theatre ahead of the day. The pack can take anywhere between 10mins to read through, or deliver a 1 hour lesson by following all the activities, depending on how you'd like to use it.
