PLAY EXPLORERS

We want to celebrate Childrens imaginations and the importance of their play, and to make Hull city centre a more playful place.  We're mapping play in Hull City Centre at this years Freedom Festival. We're recruiting our PLAY EXPLORERS!

Working with brilliant local illustrator Lilly Williams the Herd team will create a map that will illustrate what Hull City Centre looks like through a child’s eyes and through that, spark play in the everyday for other children. An artistic collaboration between artists, families and children celebrating all the opportunities Hull city centre has for free (no cost) play - and perhaps highlighting where these opportunities are lacking.

We’re recruiting families and existing groups of children (aged 4 - 11 years) to join us as our play mappers! Meeting in a shop unit Princes Quay, and supported by a Herd facilitator, the group will be given an area of the city centre to explore for 60 minutes. They’ll observe, chat, explore, to find play opportunities; in the architecture, in nature, through imagination. They’ll return to the research HQ in our Shop Unit at Princess Quay to share there findings. These will be collated into an illustrated map that will be given out to families in Hull.
